Environmental (E) – Addressing Climate Risks, Water, Soil, and Biodiversity Gaps

GVF is committed towards environmental impact and strives to restore ecological balance in regions where we are working. These regions are severely affected by climate events and human habitation. We focus on two key aspects within the scheme of things – water and plantation.

The core activities of the organisation involve conservation of water and plantation of fruit trees that create a net positive impact on the environment and restore ecological balance. Our water conservation projects include rejuvenation of seasonal rivers and recharging of groundwater resources using run off water from rainfall. These efforts have led to considerable improvements in the local environment.

Over the past 7 years our efforts have led to conservation of over 1,000 crore litres of water through various interventions, restoring the ecological balance in the region. We continue to further our efforts with over 100 kilometers of river rejuvenation and construction of 200+ GRAs this year to further transform the region impacted by changing climate patterns.

Our farmer livelihood programmes have resulted in plantation of over 7 crore fruit trees across 44,000 acres of land. The absorption of carbon from the environment is immense and the impact of these trees on the local ecosystem has been positive with the birds, bees and insects thriving in such a conducive environment.

Additionally, our efforts in soil quality restoration have helped increase the microbial activities, improving the conditions above and below the soil.

Impact

Reduces climate risks, improves resilience, and supports ecological balance.

Gaps Addressed

Water scarcity, soil degradation, low biodiversity, and climate vulnerability in distressed agrarian regions.
